about

This album was made possible by Nightshift Music Magazine in Oxford. Deltaviolin's ∆V EP was awarded Demo of the Month (Sept.2017) and the prize was 4 hours in Soundworks Recording Studio, a small & well-used community recording studio in Blackbird Leys. It’s run by a partnership of two qualified & dedicated recording pros.

The engineer in charge of my session was Umair Chaudhry, we met eye to eye immediately and I felt very comfortable explaining what I was hoping to achieve in the four hours…

Using only the 1958 Fender Electric Violin and a starting point of the concept and meaning of the word Namibia 'the vast nothingness’; I have tried to create a work that gives the listener something of the saturating, numbing effect of being overwhelmed by things beyond comprehension.

Umair was totally positive and calmly enthusiastic about the whole idea - and remained so throughout the whole session. He was also really helpful in making sure we kept a focus on achieving a coherent piece without imposing anything else on the process at all.

At the end of the session I had recorded eight takes, each lasting about 7 minutes. One mix completed in the studio was created using just four of the takes: 2nd, 3rd, 4th and last… The result was an eerie creepy piece and the title track for this album.
